Sheep Fair supports Village Pre-School 27th August 2016

Over the last couple of year the Sheep Fair have started to contribute surplus funds to worthy Village causes.

This August it has been our pleasure to donate £1,000 to the Findon Pre-School to help them purchase new storage systems that allow the children to access their chosen toys etc without help , thus enabling them to develop their own independence.  The photo shows Kim Fessey, Manager of the Pre-School,  receiving a cheque from Sheep Fair Committee member, Jan Mackerell.

The Pre-School do a great job in educating children in their early developing years and help busy parents when they go out to work.

Good progress on Wattle House  12th June 2015

Work on the Wattle House is progressing well. All of the structural stabilisation is now complete apart from some repairs to the chimney stacks which will be done once the roof is back on.

The removal of the roof uncovered quite a lot of rot (although this was anticipated). The top course of brickwork, upon which the roof rafters sit, also needed resetting. As of the 9th June the roofing slates have just started to go back on, the breathable blue roof membrane acts as a waterproof covering and was fitted as soon as the old coverings were removed. The old girl’s modesty has therefore stayed intact, she’s not had to go topless !!

Once the roof is finished those chimneys will get their TLC & works will commence to redecorate the woodwork. And then the newly refurbished guttering and downpipes will go back.

The project has been supervised by Roger Saville of Saville Jones Architects and has been also guided by David Boyson, the Conservation Officer for the South Down National Park – our thanks go to both.

Finally, and importantly, we are pleased to report that we are on budget and on programme.

Wattle House Repair and Restoration  13th May 2015

The Wattle House (aka Sheep Fair HQ) is about to undergo Phase 1 of repair and restoration. A new roof and structural repairs will be taking place over the next 10 weeks. In readiness for the works to start next week the contractor, E A Chivertons, have delivered their site huts to site today. Chivertons, a local company, are well versed in renovating older buildings like the Wattle House. (http://www.eachiverton.co.uk/).

If you do go up to Nepcote Green to see progress for yourself the Parish Council ask that you respect that the compounded area around the Wattle House will be designated a construction site and usual Security & Safety conditions apply.
