How long has the Findon Sheep Fair and Village Festival been going?

Findon was given permission by Royal Charter to hold an annual fair back in 1261 by King Henry III. The Sheep Fair proper started on Nepcote Green sometime around 1785. Previously the sheep had been sold by private deals and the first auction sales started in 1896. Auctions took place since then until the foot and mouth oubreak in the early 2000’s. Resulting stringent regulations have made auctions in Findon unviable, but this has now been replaced by Sheep Judging which has grown in numbers each year. For more information, please click here.
