FINDON SHEEP FAIR 2020 CANCELLED

After our meeting on the 18th June 2020 the Sheep Fair Committee regret to announce, with heavy hearts, that we have cancelled this years’ Findon Sheep Fair planned for the 12th and 13th September 2020. The tradition of the show, over 200 years old, has made this a difficult decision to make, but the right one. Only once before, during the 2001 Foot & Mouth epidemic, has it been necessary to cancel the Show.

The safety and welfare of our visitors, volunteers, exhibitors, staff, and traders have been at the forefront of this decision as has that of the residents of Findon Village itself. With the requirements of social distancing measures, whatever they become, & the uncertainty regarding mass gatherings we felt it was impossible to safely hold a show of the same quality and standard that members of the community know and love.

We take this opportunity to thank all within the NHS, those key workers and many unspoken heroes who continue to work incredibly hard to help the country to tackle COVID-19. We must help them as much as we can, ensuring we are not causing even more of a strain on all services.

To all of our stall holders, farmers, judges, sponsors, suppliers and contractors; Thank You for your support and understanding throughout this last 3 months. One of our committee members will contact you via eMail or phone to discuss the outcome of this decision. Please bear with us, this may take a week or so.

On behalf of the Committee, we would like to thank you all for the support you have given us over the years. We are incredibly grateful to our supporters and volunteers, without whom the show would not take place. Preparations are now in place for 2021 and on behalf of everyone at the Show, dancing sheep and all, we look forward to welcoming you then.

Together, we will get through these difficult times – keep safe and take care.

Best wishes,

Simon Stace, Chairman, Findon Sheep Fair.

The sheep fair has been running for over 230 years. Originally sheep were auctioned, but it is now less viable in a climate of strict regulation so sheep are just shown
